After 46 years, seized Gold was handed over to Customs dept

 It took more than 46 years to hand over the seized Gold worth Rs 30 crore to Customs department. A dispute arose in 1965, just after the Gold Control Act came into being, on the ownership of Gold, presumably a part of treasure find, 63 kg Gold bars and assorted ornaments were seized under the Gold Control Act in Udaipur, Rajasthan. After a long wait the ADJ, Udaipur in 1975, in his judgement ordered the handover of the seized gold and ornaments to Customs officials. The order put the Central Excise department at Udaipur, which was implementing the Gold Control Act, at the centre of the unfolding story. Thereafter the matter took a circuitous route of different courts and judicial authorities. The state malkhana handed over the said amount and gold to the Customs department last week. And the credit goes to Pramod Kumar Singh, Chief Commissioner and BS Meena, Commissioner of Customs, Udaipur, in diligently pursuing the matter and received the gold after so many decades
