Global Commodity Conclave 2026 to Shape the Future of commodity Markets

Mumbai: India will take a significant step towards strengthening its position in global commodity markets with the Global Commodity Conclave 2026, scheduled to be held from August 12 to 14 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai. Organised by the Commodity Markets Industry with the support of MCX, the three-day event will bring together policymakers, global exchanges, market infrastructure institutions, investors, corporates, SMEs and traders under the theme "Convergence of Physical and Financial Markets."

The conclave aims to highlight India's growing role in commodity price discovery and promote the vision of "Price in India, Hedge in India." Discussions will focus on strengthening domestic derivatives markets, improving risk management, enhancing supply chain resilience, and expanding commodity derivatives as an investment asset class.

Dedicated sessions will address hedging strategies for agriculture, metals, energy and electricity markets, while the final day will feature programmes for retail investors covering algorithmic trading, options and trend-following strategies.

Industry leaders said the event comes at a crucial time for India's commodity ecosystem. Ajay Garg, Alternate President, Commodity & Capital Market Participants Association of India (CPAI), said expanding retail and institutional participation is making commodity markets more inclusive and strengthening wealth creation opportunities.

Surendra Mehta, National Secretary, India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), said India is rapidly evolving from a major gold consumer to an investment market, with MCX emerging as a key gateway for bullion financialisation.

Sushil Kothari, President, Bharat Metal Exchange (BME), stressed that price benchmarking and hedging have become essential tools for MSMEs to manage volatility and sustain profitability.

Karan Dhaul, Director, Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI), said the conclave would encourage collaboration and support the development of a transparent electricity derivatives market.

Praveena Rai, MD & CEO, MCX, said the conclave would raise awareness about commodity markets, promote hedging and investment, and strengthen India's commodity ecosystem while supporting the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
