NTA remains understaffed since its inception

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established as a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions. It started working from July 2017 and was entrusted with the task to hold the JEE Main, NEET-UG twice a year, NET, CMAT and CPAT exams. According to information, the agency never got its full strength and it was run by contractual staff. Permanent staff was limited. The government had appointed Vineet Joshi as the first Director-General of the agency and from 2025 onward NTA started conducting entrance exams for higher-education institutions and recruitment tests.
